The holistic sustainable approach for the buildings and site design is based upon the Living Building Challenge 2.0 with a Net Zero philosophy. The Net Zero ready facility is highlighted by a mechanical system comprising ground source wells, water-to-water heat pumps, radiant heat, chilled beams, four pipe fan coils in the healthcare areas, and natural ventilation in the public and clinic spaces. The project is being designed using Revit/BIM.

Swedish Medical Center Issaquah

New Greenfield, energy efficient hospital and medical office building currently under construction (phase 2). Project is a 6-story, 175-bed community hospital with attached medical office building, one level of below grade parking garage, and adjacent central utility plant. Project was designed and constructed using an Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) system. Energy Use Index (EUI) for the hospital is targeted to be 150,000 BTU/SF/YR, with an EnergyStar rating of 75 or better, measured at completion and one year after.
The medical office building and Phase 1 of the hospital are complete and occupied.

Providence Regional Medical Center Everett Cymbaluk Medical Tower and Central Utility Plant

The facility used the Green Guide for Health Care as a basis for a sustainable approach to healthcare design.

Randall Children's Hospital at Legacy Emanuel Bed Tower and Infrastructure

Programming, conceptual planning, and design for new pediatric hospital with four acute care units, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), as well as pediatric emergency and diagnostics departments. Hospital consists of one below grade level, nine floors above grade, and a mechanical penthouse level. The project used the Green Guide for Health Care as a basis for a sustainable approach to healthcare design.

MultiCare Good Samaritan Hospital Dally Tower and Central Utility Plant

This project has achieved LEED-NC Gold certification and has won a citation in the 2011 Modern Healthcare Design Awards.

Central Washington Hospital Expansion

This project included additional features to accommodate proximity to residential neighborhoods including a low decibel concrete cooling tower.

Custom package rooftop AHU’s w/volume & pressure controls configured to provide secure access and maintenance in a weather-proof environment. HVAC distribution is based upon a combination medium/low pressure delivery w/zoned pressure independent, CV terminal units. Fully ducted return air system with separate, dedicated exhaust for toilets, storage, isolation areas, etc. HVAC distribution supported a unique integration of MEP infrastructure within complex, 5-part structural frame required due to building configuration.
Skagit Valley Hospital Expansion

Additionally, at the Redmond campus (formerly the Central Oregon Community hospital) CDi Engineers provided the design to support of a new Central Utility Plant, approximately 65,775 SF of newly designed space for Dining, Central Sterile Surgery, Support Services, PACU, OR’s and associated public areas, shell of second floor and new 16-bed Universal Patient Unit on the third floor, as well as 1,620 SF of renovation of existing servery and support of the demolition of the 1957 and 1964 buildings.

Seattle Children's Janet Sinegal Patient Care Building

Providence Portland Medical Center Central Utility Plant

Renovation and expansion of existing central plant and distribution systems to accommodate hospital growth over the next 30+ years. A new 3,600-ton chilled water plant with provisions for expansion to 6,000 tons was provided, as well as expansion of the boiler plant with a new 800-BHP firetube steam boiler. Awards received by this project for its engineering excellence include: 2006 ASHE Vista Team Award for Infrastructure; 2006 Oregon ACEC Grand Engineering Excellence Award; and 2007 ASHRAE Technology Award, First Place - Health Care Facilities, ASHRAE Puget Sound Chapter and ASHRAE Regional.
